RE: $13.00+TAX Dump fee at Camping World??
I for one am glad that Mr. Lemonis took the time to respond to the childish rants of someone that wanted something for free. When you were told that it would be $13 you had a choice to take it or not. You chose to take it and then come complain here, shame on you!
You also complain about attitude from an employee, holy cow Batman! It is hard to find an employee without an attitude these days.
Mr Lemonis, I want to thank you for providing the FREE DUMP service when it was free. I never used it but I am sure there are many people that did and never said thanks. Just because you offered it for free at one time does not mean it will be free forever. Remember when TV and Radio was free? How about ice or a cup of water?
And THANK YOU for sponsoring NASCAR!
RE: Cash or Finance - What Rate
Here is my question to you:
Very few people are able to take that deduction in the first place and in the second place you should not spend money because it will give you a deduction.
The second part is true, but the first part is wrong. Pretty much anyone with an average first mortgage can take the deduction on an RV loan that is secured by the RV.
Right you are! We've been doing it for 4 years now, on our CPA's advise. I believe it counts as a 2nd home.
No, I know that it is possible but for most people they don't even get to take the first mortgage interest off. They usually don't have enough deductions to beat the standard deduction.
RE: Cash or Finance - What Rate
Here's a thought (and I KNOW I'll get flamed for this one!). Pay cash, economy goes south, and you need to sell, you lose. Finance, and economy goes south, and you give the keys back to the bank, and you rented a MH for a while. BTW, our credit was good enough for 5.4% loan last month. Happy Motoring !!!
Please don't teach your kids that.
RE: Cash or Finance - What Rate
Here is my question to you:
Lets say you had an RV that was free and clear worth 200K. Would you go down to the bank and get a loan on the free and clear RV and invest that money?
Probably not.
As for the people talking about a tax deduction for a second mortgage, well that dog just won't hunt. Very few people are able to take that deduction in the first place and in the second place you should not spend money because it will give you a deduction.
My opinion is to pay cash, sleep well at night, know up front about depreciation and all other expenses related to this and enjoy the ride. It's pretty nice just smiling when someone asks how much are the payments on that thing.
RE: slowness of this site
Ok, let's put it this way.
This site offers certain things:
- information from real life rving experience
- light hearted contact with people of similar interests
- and with many of us, honest to goodness friendships with e-neighbors.
Either it's worth it to you or it isn't.
;)
You are absolutely right, and lately due to the unreliability of the forums I have chosen not to visit as often. Kind of like stopping at your favorite eatery to be told sorry we are out of that today, pretty soon you just find a new favorite.
RE: slowness of this site
Being an easterner, who started out with dial up and expect to be back on dial up in a new location very shortly, I know get up early, don't stay up late. I find it easy to pick up on, figure out when you have less wait time. I think others miss this lesson. & to have the other portals handy. In other words, I see that I can adapt.
Wow, I am almost speechless.....almost. How would you feel:
1. If you picked up the phone and got a message "Sorry you will have to wait until there are less users".
2. How about flipping the light switch and hear a recording "Lights not available at this time".
3. Tuning to your favorite TV show only to be told "Error show cannot be displayed"
4. Turning the key in your ignition and hear "sorry roads are full"
You get the idea, we are all adaptable but for you to say what you said just doesn't float. You know full well that you are having major problems because you have changed your schedule dramatically and have a list of alternative portals just so you can participate here. Don't settle for less than you deserve.
Well, I was asked.
& Generally, get real!
& don't you try to adapt to the circumstances in your life. If your local hydro provider has different rates for different times of the day, don't you adapt, as you can, to pay less money?
:C
Nope, I do not mind paying a premium for convenience of having things when I want. BTW, I am real, really :)

RE: slowness of this site
Tom,
Thanks for your reply and I sympathize with you however, in this day and time if a tech cannot figure it out then maybe you should try elsewhere. My goal is not to bash you or the techs, it is to hopefully to remind the powers that be that in its present condition the forums are consistently inconsistent. It is to the point that you do not want to post a reply because you know there is a 70% chance the reply will get lost.
There are numerous commercially available forum software programs that have just as many, if not more features than your current forum software. I'll lay low and quit complaining to give you a chance to fix the problem.
Have you any idea how much information is stored here, dating back to 2000? Several thousand posts a day to be converted to another software????????????????????????????????/
:S :h
Hi Little Kopit,
Well since you ask I do know how much data is here. I myself, have a similar amount of data on numerous websites (since 1998) that are run using MySQL, perl, php and others. Converting this to another software database structure is not as difficult as you make it sound although it will take considerable effort and probably custom written software to make it happen.
Do you have any experience in database structure and programming? Do you think the current software is stable enough for a commercial enterprise? Do you think it wise to fix the problems that all users are experiencing whether that fix is a patch or a new platform?
If you have ideas please post them. I would like to see RV.net get past these issues and go full steam ahead as the continued leader in the RV community.

RE: slowness of this site
Hey Mods, Does the bossman know about the forum issue? I think if they knew how many people they were alienating it would be fixed in a day or so. Almost any problem (hardware/software) can be fixed in less than a few days if it is important to you.
RE: Slideout causes window to shatter
I had a patio door on my stick built shatter under just these kind of conditions. Although these are dual pane. The edge seal failed and due to a quick warming during the day the inside pane shattered and the outside pane was intact.
If it was saftey glass it can fail on its own and for no apparent reason. To this day my 85 year old F-I-L will insist that when parking in the sun we need to open the window a crack so the glass won't break.
I have, personally, witnessed the rear window of a car shatter on a super hot August day when the car's windows and vents were all closed. I vote with your FIL.
I second that as I have seen it happen also. Back window just explodes.
THere are too many holes for air to move in and out, especially at such a slow pace. Think about it, does your car float? This idea just doesn't hold air :P
In addition, if this were the case every time you slammed your door you would pop out your rear glass.
How much pressure would have to build up to break the glass?
Now that I think of it, AMC did build a car that had this problem it was the AMC Pacer, they put extra strong glass in it and in the summer it would expand like a ballon to look almost round ;)
RE: Front TV "off" while driving....Fuse location?
Yep, there is always that one LEO that lets his gun and badge go to his head and becomes a real horses pattoon, then there are others that are normal and have a little common sense that could care less if the tv is on in a mh.
I will never, ever apologize for enforcing a law that is designed to protect those drivers who feel nothing will ever happen to them or is designed to protect others on the road. I gave lots of verbal warnings for violations that didn't have possible fatal ramifications. You don't care about the others. Someone has to.
But you should use judgement. If the TV was on to keep kids or others happy while driving and the driver is not looking up to watch it, is there really a need to issue a citation? Cell phones, GPS systems, backup cameras are just as (if not more) distracting.
As for the FHP that has issued over 100 citations for this (serious crime) he should have had his wings clipped a long time ago. This was an easy ticket for him and you could tell by his numbers he was/is out of control and had a special attraction (fetish) for issuing these tickets.
How many cops drive around looking at their laptops?
RE: Front TV "off" while driving....Fuse location?
Does anyone here have personal experience of someone being ticketed for illegal TV operation or caused an accident while watching TV? Rare as hens teeth I bet.
I posted the same question however the moderator decided to edit it out for me. :O
RE: Slideout causes window to shatter
Have a '95 Allegro Bay 34 foot with superslide. Upon letting the slide out, the driver's door window shatters into a bazillion pieces. The MH was leveled with the jacks down before the slide went into motion. The window was down about a quarter of the way when it happened. Has anyone experienced this happening to them, if so, what was the cause? Just curious so that maybe can avoid from happening again.
TM
Are you certain these two events are connected in some way - just because the window shattered when the slide was moving doesn't mean the slide was the cause of the window failure.
I agree, theses two events are probably not connected. I watched my rear glass in a chevy truck sitting in my garagae just start cracking all by itself. Within 30 minutes the entire back glass was shattered.
Also, the idea about a vacuum creating a significant pressure change to break glass.....well that just sucks :P
RE: 40' Class A-driver without class b-noncommercial DL
Hi WarrenS,
I was just trying to help with your answer about a claim. I was hoping to spur deeper thoughts of how you would feel in the other persons shoes and let you see that maybe the insurance company wasn't your biggest worry.
Cheers.
RE: Front TV "off" while driving....Fuse location?
Silver Knight, everything you mentioned can jeopardize everyone else on the road. There ARE others out there, you know.
My point exactly. If you ever do one of the items I mentioned it is no different that the TV issue.
RE: Tow bar / brake system / brackets ordered
Always double check the following:
1. TOAD is in nuetral or towing position.
2. Steering unlocked?
3. Everything secure?
4. Brakes setup correctly?
5. Signals working?
6. Check after each stop to make sure some "jokester" did not unhook anything.
BTW, if you forget to unlock your steering you will probably not be able to hear the tire squealing or see the smoke :S
RE: Front TV "off" while driving....Fuse location?
Simple, there are a huge amount of closed minds here. Turn the TV on and live your life as you please. If you get pulled over for this, so what. Deal with it and go on. There are a bunch of forum police that just love to post "that is illegal" but then so is driving 56 in a 55MPH zone. So is driving a rig that you are not licensed to drive, So is not using a turn signal, So is not using TOAD brakes in certain states, and on and on and on.
Unplug it from where it is plugged in and plug it into the other receptacle and you are probably good to go.
